For those of you who like the idea of running over hundreds upon hundreds of zombies without having to shell out ten bucks, you can give the game Zombie Driver a whirl without dropping any cash or resorting to piracy (y’arr). The developer of the game has just released a demo that clocks around five hundred megabytes.
I have yet to try the game although I have been talking about it for some time. Part of the reason is that I’m using a mac right and I have yet to setup Windows on my other partition and the other reason is that I’m kinda of lazy.
As for the game itself, here is what Scott Sharkey from 1up has to say:

I have yet to try the game although I have been talking about it for some time. Part of the reason is that I’m using a mac right and I have yet to setup Windows on my other partition and the other reason is that I’m kinda of lazy.

As for the game itself, here is what Scott Sharkey from 1up has to say:

The game’s a bit short and doesn’t provide much beyond the visceral glee of running over craploads of people who actually have it coming, but that’s probably more than enough for the lean, $10 price tag. And some gameplay depth eventually emerges as the game introduces more undead types and a greater assortment of weapons and vehicles are unlocked and upgraded, requiring you to juggle considerations like armor, speed, and passenger capacity against the needs of the mission. Zombie Driver is good for at least a few afternoons of simple enjoyment, and anyone who ever bore affection for classics like Carmageddon owes it to themselves to drop a few bucks on the thing.

The premise of this ten dollar game is simple. Get in a car, save people, run over zombies. Granted, you can add guns to the mix, upgrade your cars, or even choose different vehicles to get the job done. Yet, at the end of the day, it’s all about the roadkill.
The Escapist magazine managed to get their hands on it and gave it a spin. The reviewer wasn’t blown away by the game. Actually, he seemed somewhat irritated with it, but he refused to discuss his feelings at length being the game costs on ten bucks. Here’s his bottom line:
You drive around the city killing zombies with cars, bullets, explosives, and fire. There’s nothing wrong with that, it has its intense moments and plowing through a crowd of the undead and watching them explode in blood is always a good time. It won’t shake ...

You drive around the city killing zombies with cars, bullets, explosives, and fire. There’s nothing wrong with that, it has its intense moments and plowing through a crowd of the undead and watching them explode in blood is always a good time. It won’t shake up your world but at $10, you’re kind of getting what you pay for. It was entertaining now and then, but nothing special – like, at all.

There’s also a little embedded movie so that you can see the game in action. I haven’t played it, but it does look interesting. Maybe when it drops to five bucks I’ll give it a whirl.

Yesterday, I posted an entry talking about an upcoming game called Zombie Driver so you can imagine my surprise when I bumped into an announcement noting that the game was released today on Steam.
My jaw dropped even lower when I read that it will cost a cool ten nine bucks to snag the title (for a limited time) and then it shoots to the moon to ten bucks. Wow … we are in definite impulse purchase territory here. The only thing stopping me from buying this right now is my current game of Plants Versus Zombies, but I have a feeling that my will just might snap sooner than later.
About the game itself, Kotaku did a fine write up of it:

Zombie Driver’s name caught my eye, and then the gameplay trailer we posted in October took said eye out and played with it for awhile. Looking very much like an old-school Grand Theft Auto title, Zombie Driver sees players driving through an undead-infected city, plowing through hordes of zombies as they race to rescue survivors of the apocalypse. As you play you buy and unlock new cars, upgrading them with various implements of destruction, such as flamethrowers, rocket launchers, or dual railguns.

Must not purchase … must not purchase …

Back in October, I talked about a game that puts you in the front seat of a blood spattered vehicle and challenges you to run over every dead walking thing you can. You know … like in real life. The game is called Zombie Driver. Although the title won’t win any awards for its creative use of zombie or driver, the developers have released more info about the game that in a word, looks intriguing.
Here’s what the attached blog has to say about the game:
The concept sees players driving around, picking people up and dropping them off like some sort of taxi service (think Quarantine but without the dystopian atmosphere or the ability to shoot out the window with a handgun). The game is a 3D, overhead driving game that features the ability to outfit vehicles with various weapons and encourages players to drive hard in order ...

They’ve also linked a trailer in the mix which of course requires age verification so those under the age of eighteen, don’t put in a fake date because they will, er, be very upset at you. I gotta say, the game looks good. My only concern is that the top down perspective. I’m worried that uou might drive so fast that you will have no time to react.

As usual, more on this game as I have it.

It was only a matter of time before zombies and racing games collided. Zombie Driver is coming next month on the Steam network. The concept is simple. Zombies roam the landscape trying to eat people. You drive a car. Your job is to drive over everyone and everything in attempt to rescue as many people as possible. The greater zombie kills, the more points you get which you can using to upgrade your car. This sounds a lot like Carmageddon albeit in a third person perspective. Although with Carmageddon, you ran over old women and football players (the games was awesome, btw). Sounds interesting and fun. More to come soon as the release date approaches.
