Pride, Prejudice, and Zombies Moving Forward

For those of you are waiting with baited breath for the forthcoming movie adaption of Pride, Prejudice, and Zombies, you’ll be happy to hear that the project has just confirmed its third director, Craig Gillespie. According to Comic Book Resources, Gillespie recently finished a remake of the eighties schlock vampire film, Fright Night. Whether this guy is a good fit is yet to be seen, but I guess we should be happy that something is happening. I just have this bad feeling in my stomach that this film is going to be pretty terrible. I usually don’t get that stomach turning nausea, but this film seems to be eating people alive (har, har). I remember awhile back that there was great whoops of delight when Natalie Portman … Read entire article »

Pride and Predjudice and Zombies and Video Games

If you just haven’t heard enough about the ever popular Pride and Predjudice and Zombies book, you’ll be happy to know that not only is it going to be a full featured movie, but it will now be a video game. At first look, I wanted to smash my head through my monitor, but on a second look, it makes me just want to break my fingers instead. Instead of being a fully featured stand alone game, this looks to be a iPhone app which will probably cost somewhere south of ten bucks. In short, this is the equivalent of an advertisement for a flash game. … Read entire article »

Dawn of the Dreadfuls Trailer

Tiffany, over at Quirk Books, just sent me an email, letting me know that Quirk has just released a trailer from the upcoming book, Dawn of the Dreadfuls. Mind you, it’s really called Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dawn of the Dreadfuls, but I feel like it’s sort of like saying Star Wars: The Empires Strikes Back. About the trailer … it looks fabulous. If this were a real movie instead of book trailer, I would be reserving my ticket right now. As it stands, this two minute clip gives you a brief glimpse of horrors of lurking beneath the surface in this prequel. Which is my problem with it. … Read entire article »

Live Long and Eat Brains

Our friends and neighbors over at Quirk books are at it again with an upcoming zombie book that attempts to fuse the Star Trek universe with our flesh eating undead friends. Aptly titled, Night of the Living Trekkies, the book follows a group of Star Trek fans who happen to get caught in a zombie apocalypse created by mad alien scientists. The story is pitched as a Galaxy Quest meets Dawn of the Dead mashup with plenty of Star Trek references to make your head spin. … Read entire article »

Pride, Predjudice, and Zombies — The Graphic Novel

Every day, there appears to be news item about the breakout hit Pride, Prejudice, and Zombies. First there was the announcement of a film, starring Natalie Portman. Soon, we have the prequel Dawn of the Dreaduls, hitting stores in only a couple of weeks (review coming shortly). And now, we have a graphic novel based off the book. Zombies are truly everywhere these days. I will say, zombies and comics go together like peanut butter and chocolate, so I am really looking forward to the release of this project. Also, the comic format allows the (re)writer to tone down a lot of the original Jane Austen prose which might raise some eyebrows from the literary crowd, but will certainly be a relief to the zombie loving one. … Read entire article »

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

If you were a fan of the breakout novel Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Seth Grahame-Smith, you should be happy to know that this week marks a new release for the author. That being, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Unlike his past work which was the literary equivalent of the movie Kung Pow: Enter the Fist, this work is entirely original. I gotta say, Grahame-Smith is a rather astute marketer and part of me wonders if it will show in his work. Check out how he came to conceive of this book: … Read entire article »

E’Gad Zombies!

You’ll have to excuse the off-posting today. For what feels like the hundredth time this winter, I’ve managed to contact another stomach flu. Thankfully it’s not as pointed as my last encounter, but it did manage to keep me home for the day. I swear, I think I’ve taken a least a week off this winter for sick days alone. It’s been a bad winter. Well enough of stomach pains and onto stomach churning. I just found this over at Living Dead Media. Before there was Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, there was E’Gads Zombies which looks to do what Ms. Portman aims to do, but I’m guessing with a lot more zombie eating people action. … Read entire article »

Natalie Portman Takes on the Undead in Pride Prejudice and Zombies

If you’ve always dreamed of seeing Natalie Portman star in a zombie film, you’re prayers have been answered. The BBC just announced that Portman will be starring and producing in the Jane Austen mashup of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. There’s also a brief mention of the followup prequel, Dawn of the Dreadfuls although there is no film version planned for it. Twenty bucks says they already sold the rights. Is this a good thing? I’m not so sure. … Read entire article »

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Television

For those of you who are fans of the mega hit Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, you get to watch your favorite piece of fiction translated into a low budget television series whereby everything you liked about the book will be distilled into a passing comment by a side character who was never in the book in the first place. I kid, of course. But not by much. Actually, I’m a big fan a well funded television treatments. It’s the best way to present books because the format gives filmmakers the time to explore the work. For example, you simply cannot catch the spirit of War and Peace in a two hour movie, but the BBC nailed it in their twenty part television adaption (which featured a … Read entire article »

Introducing Dawn of the Dreadfuls

Looks like publisher Quirk Books is up to it again. Riding the success of his megahit, “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies”, Quirk Book is busy on a prequel titled, “Dawn of the Dreadfuls”. Notice I didn’t mention an author? That’s because there isn’t one listed with the project. Seth Grahame-Smith who penned the original Jane Austen zombie mashup is busy at work on another novel titled, “Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter” which sounds fun in theory. As for the current literary mashup craze, I think Grahame-Smith might have caught lightning in a bottle, but I don’t think it will prove repeatable. Time will tell. Zombies, classics and you (latimesblog.latimes.com … Read entire article »
