Tape It or Die! for Dead Rising 2
For video game lovers such as myself, August most definitely lives up to its reputation of being filled with dogged themed days. With developers priming their releases for the holiday season, most of them skip over the heatwave month in fear of their product being forgotten in a stampede of spartan soldiers and plastic guitar wielding rhythm gamers. I remember in the summer of 2006, we faced a similar August except one game was released that won the hearts and minds of many a zombie lover — Dead Rising. It was a fun game for sure, taking on the zombie horde in nothing but your underwear, but the game had some serious issues that turned a fun game into a teeth grating exercise of patience. Does the name … Read entire article »

Dead Rising 2 Delayed Until September
Bad news from the zombie video game department. Dead Rising 2 has been delayed until the fall. There was no specific reason given, but I’m guessing it probably could use a little polish. God knows … sandbox games need a whole lot of loving from the Quality Assurance team as they must test every inconceivable action being performed by the player. I’m guessing if the development team had its way, they’d probably push it back another year, but money being money probably dictated the short one month delay. That said, I hope the sequel addresses some of the game mechanics of the first one. I thought the first game was really cool and I put quite a bit of time into it, but the … Read entire article »

Dead Rising 2 … Killing Zombies with Your Creativity
Dead Rising was a missed opportunity for me. I loved the idea of living a George Romero nightmare, but I felt the game tripped all over itself. Although the save system created high tension moments, it also made it impossible to leave the game in any sort of timely fashion. The respawning convicts were definitely cheap, and I hated the giant red notification letters informing me that I had failed to save someone’s life. Add Otis calling non-stop and some tedious boss fights, the game felt more like a job to me than actual fun. When I heard that Dead Rising 2 was being developed, there wasn’t much excitement to be found in my neck of the woods, yet as we grow closer to the … Read entire article »

Dead Rising 2 Offers Duct Tape for Weapon Combinations
Although I wasn’t a big fan of the original Dead Rising and the new one looks to be a non-starter for me, Capcom has developed a pretty unique weapon combination system that sounds intriguing. Good old fashioned duct tape. Add a few strips of tape to a paddle, then attach a chainsaw and voila! You have long distance killing device (although it would be hell on your arms). I’ve also seen screenshots of chainsaws jury rigged to motorcycles and who knows, maybe you can attach chainsaws to shoulder pads or maybe even tape a chainsaw onto a helmet. Chainsaws! Chainsaws! Chainsaws! Everyone wins a chainsaw! … Read entire article »

Dead Rising Movie in the Works
I remember in the summer of 2006, the recently released XBox was in a bit of a dry patch. The system had been out for less than a year and there was only a few good games for it. When Dead Rising was released, it was like stepping into the promised land. Good graphics. Hungry zombies. Plenty of action. I enjoyed the game at the time being there simply wasn’t anything else to play (except Geometry Wars) but playing it again a few months ago, I remember why I didn’t like it. There was the constant ringing phone, the respawning convicts, the horrific save system, not to mention lame boss fights. It seemed like there was always a survivor that needed to … Read entire article »
