Dawn on the Dead on the iPhone
For those of you with an iPhone and who like to kill thousands of zombies en masse, you might want to check out Universal’s Dawn of the Dead arcade game for the iPhone and iPod Touch. I wish I could write something fresh about this game, but honestly, I’ve seen a gazillion of these types of games online for free. Hell, even Dead Frontier tried to create an MMORPG around what looks to be the same game. Here’s a little more information from the blog post: … Read entire article »

Dawn of the Dead 2?
I was just browsing over at ZombieZoneNews.com (great site, btw) when this article grabbed my eye, and rammed it through a long splinter. Maybe that wasn’t the appropriate metaphor, but the site is reporting that Dawn of the Dead 2 is currently in talks. This makes total sense, and to tell you the truth, I’m surprised it has taken this long for these talks to surface. After all, the remake of Dawn of the Dead was the highest grossing zombie film of all time. From the article: … Read entire article »

Dawn of the Dead Coming to the Small Screen?
Here’s an interesting bit of news circulating through the web. Evidently, MTV (remember when they did music?) is in the works of turning Dawn of the Dead in a television series. There’s not much details on the project with exception that it will be combination of fast zombies and slow zombies. Horror website Bloody Disgusting broke the news, but the news has been picked up all over the web, Bloody Disgusting has since pulled it down. If only removing content was that easy. You can check out the announcement here thanks to good old google cache. … Read entire article »

Moviefone’s Free Movie of the Day: Dawn of the Dead (2004)
With Christmas rearing its head at the end of this week, a lot of us will be making our way to the local mall as if we were zombies ourselves looking for a fresh snack. To get into the spirit of endless lines, irritated customers, and enraged babies, Moviefone is providing a link to website called Slashcontrol which embeds a video by Hulu which just happens to be Dawn of the Dead. Here’s what the Moviefone people have to say: … Read entire article »

Zombie Bracket – Final Round – Night of the Living Dead vs Dawn of the Dead (2004)
Zombieland put up a spirited defense, but alas, the flesh eaters from Dawn of the Dead ended up overwhelming the new comedy, and tearing it to pieces. That means, Zombieland has placed fourth just behind 28 Days Later. Now it is time to determine who wins it all and who walks away second best. Night of the Living Dead versus Dawn of the Dead (2004) Here is Night of the Living Dead’s synopsis: Chaos descends upon the world as the brains of the recently deceased become inexplicably reanimated, causing the dead to rise and feed on human flesh. Speculation rests on a radiation-covered NASA satellite returning from Venus, but it only remains a speculation. Anyone who dies during the crisis of causes unrelated to brain trauma will return as a flesh-eating … Read entire article »

Dawn of the Living Dead?
Did you notice that Romero’s first film was titled Night of the Living Dead and his followup zombie film was titled Dawn of the Dead. Following logic, the next movie should have been titled Dawn of the Living Dead? Instead, every movie since Night of the Living Dead the moniker “living dead” has been dropped from all Romero films. There’s actually a good reason for this, and his name is John Russo. When George Romero directed Night of the Living Dead, he worked with several collaborators. Each one paid five hundred bucks to finance the film. One such collaborator was John Russo who actually co-wrote the script with Romero. Like all shaky partnerships, Russo and Romero found themselves at odds with one another after the … Read entire article »

Zombie Bracket – Round 3 – Zombieland vs Dawn of the Dead (2004)
I would like to say it was a tough matchup, but Night of the Living Dead came out swinging and earned itself a place in the championship. This next matchup should be an interesting one. Two recent zombie upstarts going head to head. There can be only one victor. The question, who will make it to the championship match. The next question … will it even matter? Here is Zombieland’s synopsis: A cowardly shut-in named Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) is forced to join up with a seasoned zombie slayer named Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) in order to survive the zombie apocalypse. As Tallahassee sets out on a mission to find the last Twinkie on Earth, the duo meets up with Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin), … Read entire article »

Dawn of the Dead (2004) on Hulu
Thanks to Chris for pointing this one out. If you feel like watching some zombies tear apart random people in between advertisements for fabric softener, well, Hulu is now showing the entire version of Dawn of the Dead with limited commercial interruption. I found it useful because when I was in the theaters, me and my buddy left during the credits, missing out the end tidbits. So after a couple of commercials, I was able to fast forward to the credit sequence. I didn’t feel like adding to my Netflix queue for such a small part of the movie. The other good thing was seeing the intro of the movie. So far, it’s probably my favorite zombie movie opening, closely followed by Night … Read entire article »

Zombie Bracket – Round 2 – Dead Alive (Braindead) vs Dawn of the Dead (2004)
Poor Fulci just can’t get a break. He wanted to win the tournament, but Zombieland‘s “nut up or shut up” approach just smacked him down hard. Maybe next year, Fulci. Or, maybe not. Well, we’ve finally reached the last matchup of round two. Peter Jackson’s Dead Alive versus Zach Synder’s Dawn of the Dead. Here’s the Dead Alive synopsis: Director Peter Jackson’s second feature cheerfully trumps the gross-out quotient of his splatterfest debut, the appropriately named Bad Taste. The tone is cartoonishly comic, and the premise is simple: The village dweeb (Timothy Balme) is trying to maintain a budding romance with the sweet Paquita (Diana Penalver) while concealing the fact that his overbearing mum (Elizabeth Moody, in an amazing good-sport performance) is a flesh-eating zombie. (She owes her condition … Read entire article »

Zombie Bracket – Round Two – Night of the Living Dead vs Dawn of the Dead (1978)
Another day. Another upset. George Romero’s classic Day of the Dead was put in its place by the spritely remake of its older brother, Dawn of the Dead. Granted, Day of the Dead was the weakest in Romero’s dead trilogy, but I’ll always have a soft spot for it. Nothing will beat that opening scene where the dead stumble out of a derelict town, or when all the arms shoot through the wall. Then again, with its puffy hair and over-the-top acting, I can see why it got trounced. Well … on to the next round of the bracket, and we’re already seeing a match between two heavy hitters. Some might complain that this match is best left for last, but alas, a bracket … Read entire article »

Flyboy Action Figure
Maybe I’m one of the few people who felt that Dawn of the Dead’s Flyboy was kind of a weenie. Still, I felt bad when he got munched in that elevator and even though I knew he was screwed beyond belief, I half hoped he would manage to survive. At least, to escape. Alas, that was no the case and hence, this action figure for your enjoyment. As you can see, Flyboy still totes his gun with him, but you’ll notice that there is half of a person at his feet. Pretty cool. NECA Cult Classics Series 3 Action Figure Flyboy Zombie from “Dawn of the Dead” (amazon.com … Read entire article »

Zombie Bracket – Round One – City of the Living Dead vs Dawn of Dead
With one matchup down, Night of the Living Dead moves into the next round while Night of the Creeps heads home with its head in its hands. So what’s next? Classic Romero against classic Fulci. Here is synopsis for City of the Living Dead: This gruesome horror film from cult director Lucio Fulci posits a priest’s suicide opening the gateway to Hell, freeing bloodthirsty zombies to roam the town of Dunwich. The main attractions are startlingly explicit special effects by Franco Rufino, including two of the horror genre’s most memorable deaths. One involves perennial victim Giovanni Lombardo Radice (also known as John Morghen) having his head run through with a power-drill, and the second is the notorious scene of a woman vomiting up all of her internal organs in a … Read entire article »

Hare Krishna Zombie
I must say, when I saw the original Dawn of the Dead all those years ago, the only thoughts I had for the Hare Krishna zombie was for it to get blown away. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen Dawn of the Dead, but If I recall correctly, the Hare Krishna zombie just hung around like a booger at the the end of finger which refuses to be flicked off. Well, for those of you who loved the zombie, you’ll be happy to know our favorite devout dead man is now on sale at Amazon for a lofty six bucks. That’s right, you can have his little beady eyes staring at you all day the same way a dog stares at a piece of meat. I … Read entire article »

Misc Thoughts on Dawn of the Dead (remake)
For the record, I think the original Dawn of the Dead is probably the best zombie movie ever made, so when I went to see the remake, I didn’t think that it would even compare. I left the theater with a meh feeling. There were some really good parts to it, but those parts were drowned out in just a lot of blah. But here’s the funny thing … I found myself spending a lot of time, trying to wrap my head around two big issues. First brain burner … how the hell would you get the dude off the roof of the building? I can’t tell you how many hours I have spent on this problem. I don’t buy the dog food delivery service nor do I … Read entire article »
