Ars Technica Reviews Dead Rising 2
For all of you Dead Rising fans, yesterday was the day to get your zombie killing mojo going and now a day later and sixty dollars lighter, I’m sure many of you have some pretty awesome stories that involve the walking dead and maybe a couple of sharp garden tools. The game just arrived in my mailbox today and while I’m looking forward to start the game, I gotta say from having just read Ars Technica’s review, I’m guessing I’m not going to be dancing, but rather, biting my fist in soul crushing frustration. Ah yes, the ‘effing save system strikes back. While it doesn’t sound as ridiculous as the first game, requiring you to travel ten minutes just to save the game, it still sounds like a lot … Read entire article »

Survival of the Dead Comes to Netflix
Here’s some pretty cool news for those of you who have a Netflix subscription. George Romero’s latest zombie epic – Survival of the Dead - is now available to watch on their streaming service. I would love to say that this is a kick ass film and that if you don’t have Netflix subscription, you should go and get yourself one, but truth be told, I have yet to see this movie. In fact, from what I heard from some of my close zombie friends, you should probably skip this movie if you want to still be thinking good things about Romero. Again, I can’t really say since I haven’t seen it yet, but I have noticed a definite downward arc from Land of the Dead. … Read entire article »

More Thoughts on Dead Rising 2: Case Zero
I’ve been having a fun time lately playing Dead Rising 2: Case Zero on my XBox. So far I’m finding it to be a fun experience, navigating between hordes of zombies trying to accomplish my objectives. While a clock is counting down to the ultimate end, I don’t feel the same pressure that I felt with the original Dead Rising and that’s a welcome relief. It definitely helps that the game is a short one so that an unexpected end isn’t so much of a big deal. I’m finding the save system to a joy with prompts occurring after each cut scene and between breaks to the bathroom. In short, I’m able to have fun and while an unexpected death may set me back, it’s … Read entire article »

The Walking Dead Season 2? Not So Much (For Now)
It’s hard to believe that while we wait for the release of the first season of The Walking Dead, there has been some crazy speculation regarding the production of the second one. Rumors have suggested that the next series will begin shooting in February. Well, Frank Darabont splashed some cold water on the theory in a great old man Smithers impression that will certainly depress the hardest of the hardcore. “Shooting in February? As tired as I am right now getting season one through post, I’d rather shoot myself,”. Umm … no gray area there. … Read entire article »

Zombie Movies: The Ultimate Guide – Chopper Chicks in Zombietown
If you are looking to get you hands on a good zombie movie, but you don’t know what to see, do yourself a favor and pick yourself up a copy of Glenn Kay’s excellent book, Zombie Movies: The Ultimate Guide. In it, Glenn covers the wide expanse of zombie movies starting with the genre’s roots back with White Zombie and continues to review zombie movies until the book’s publication (2008). Glenn pretty much covers everything even remotely zombie related such as movies that aren’t even technically “zombie movies” but might contain walking dead people. Well, thumbing through the book, I pulled up a review of a classic that I missed while in highschool. Had I known about this tour-de-force, I imagine I would be quoting … Read entire article »

“Monsters” Coming on Demand on September 24
It’s really hard to describe this movie, and looking at the trailer, I can’t help but say it looks pretty awesome. Looking to combine good old fashioned apocalypse with some zombie horde behavior, Monsters appears to be the type of film that got me into zombies in the first place. Note, you can find the trailer by the following the link below. So what are the monsters? I’m not quite sure. The trailer does an excellent job at concealing the hungry beasts, and while some of them looks to be of Godzilla proportions, I’m guessing from the giant “INFECTED AREA” signs means that this parasite crosses over to people as well. Yeah, so what’s it about? Here’s what I managed to dig up: … Read entire article »

Hot Zombie Action’s Case Zero Review
For people who own an XBox, this week was a pretty good one since we saw the release of Dead Rising 2: Case Zero. This small game acts as a prelude before Dead Rising 2, giving us a little backstory to our main character while doing its best to wet our appetite for good old fashioned zombie killing. The story follows Chuck, a man who looks eerily like President Bush, who does his best to save his little girl from a zombie infection. Evidently, a shot of the rare drug Zombex keeps the infection at bay for twelve hours after which, another shot is required. Needless to say, our hero stops at a deserted gas station whereupon his truck is stolen along with his stockpile of … Read entire article »

Harrodsburg Zombie Walk
I tell ya – no matter how crappy the day – just seeing some pics from a local zombie walk will always produce a smile from me. In fact, just the other day, I was trolling the web for some interesting zombie tidbits when I encountered this post over at Living Dead Media about a zombie walk in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. By Seattle standards, this is a small zombie gathering looking only to have only twenty people or so. But while it lacks in numbers, it makes up in style. Just looking at the pictures, you can see some pretty cool looking dead people with one person obviously being a big fan of Day of the Dead. … Read entire article »

Will Digg Soon Become a Zombie Website?
I don’t know if any of you are following the epic car crash currently in progress over at Digg, but I gotta say, it’s text book lesson on how to shoot yourself in the head. Web 2.0 style. If you are new to the entire disaster, let me give you a recap. Last week, Digg decided to roll out version 4 of their submission platform. From what I understand, the goal of the software was to even out the submission process since the old version tended to favor the hard core users. The update also changed the user interface, reworked the comment system, and it appears to have touched ever bit of the site. I don’t know too much of the specifics. I just know … Read entire article »

Dead Rising High Stakes Edition
For those of you sitting back in your lawn chairs right now, sucking down tasty margaritas between epic sessions of Dead Rising: Case Zero (more on that later) while some of us are slaving away under a hot September sun, you’ll be happy to hear that Capcom is raising the stakes of their upcoming release, Dead Rising 2. First we had a collector’s edition that included a pen shot of Zombrex. Now we have a high stakes edition. I can hear the furrowing of a thousand brows just beyond my window. Why would anyone want to drop ninety bucks on what amounts to be a higher priced video game? Well, for some, it may be a little overkill. But for the poker loving zombie killer, this … Read entire article »

Dead State Shambling Towards Gamers in the Nebulous Future
These days if you can find an electronic gizmo that can bleep and flash, chances are, there are at least a couple of zombie games written for it. This isn’t a bad thing. After all … zombie games can be wonderfully fun. I got a good solid years worth of Left 4 Dead 1 alone. Yet, as a gamer, I’ve been finding the genre to be growing a little … er, moldy. It’s a lot of running and gunning, without much time put in the thinking department. Well, it seems like the folks over at Double Bear have been listening to my thoughts and writing some of them down, because it was just announced on Destructoid’s blog that a zombie role playing game is set to … Read entire article »

Cracked’s 7 Scientific Reasons a Zombie Outbreak Would Fail
Here’s the latest zombie write up from the fine people over at Cracked.com about why a zombie apocalypse could not happen. This isn’t a scientific breakdown of biology and viruses or any examination of whether such a state is even possible. Rather, the article examines on how a zombie apocalypse is just not sustainable in the modern world. The article goes on to mention things like heat and cold being a factor. Wild animals make an appearance and of course, people’s love of metal pointy things that go boom. I gotta say, I’m kind of in agreement with the final conclusion. If zombies can be killed with guns, I just can’t see them rising in any serious numbers to overthrow human civilization. While … Read entire article »

Coming This October … ZomBCon 2010
Zombie Queen Kimberly just wrote to me via the website, letting loose the word that Seattle is once again up to its old zombie shenanigans. I gotta give Kimberly a thumbs up (*whimper*Pittsburgh should be the official world zombie capital*whimper*) because her event is awesome. Aptly titled ZomBCon … this is a zombie’s lover convention featuring guests such as Romero, Max Brooks, and a whole bunch of zombie loving content producers. Even the esteemed Zombie Research Society will be making an appearance to discuss the realities of zombies. … Read entire article »

The Walking Dead Trailer Officially Releasd
A few posts back, I found an bootleg copy of a cell phone recorded VHS copied passed around the gutter and lost in a sock drawer copy of The Walking Dead trailer as it was shown at Comic Con. The image quality looked like the movie were projected on someone’s armpit while it sounded like an impassioned debate between Charlie Brown cartoon adults set to a Mariachi band. Thankfully, a much better trailer was released lately in of all its man on horse meets zombie action. … Read entire article »

The Joys of Dead Rising 2
For those of you chomping at the bit for plenty of “chainsaw on paddle in zombie action”, the fine folks over at Ars Technica managed to play a little through the current build and they love it. While they enjoy the deadly seriousness of a zombie outbreak, they simply adore the ingrained absurdity of crafting your own zombie killing weapons while wearing a bikini. Having seen some stills of the protagonist, cruising the streets in a wheelchair armed with miniguns, I gotta say, I’m laughing a little myself. … Read entire article »
