1,000 Facebook Fans and Counting
Checking the facebook page today, I saw that A World on Fire has passed its one thousand fan. Wow. I am just blown away. It just goes to show you how beloved our brain eaters really are. Truth be told, I don’t like using the word “fan”. I wished facebook picked a word along the line of “subscriber” or “reader” because the word “fan” sort of implies a one way communication. Although I might not comment on all the stories, I make sure to read every comment that is posted here and I have learned so much from this community as whole. The site actually started as a way to grow a readership for my upcoming book, A World on Fire. I envisioned it as being a … Read entire article »

Facebook Page Down
If you visit the site through Facebook, you’ll notice that the page is devoid of both posts and comments. I’m guessing someone was doing some database maintenance and somehow deleted the page’s wall. I’ve contacted support multiple times, but being a monster of a website with probably thousands of bug reports per hour, I have no idea when the page will come back. I wish I could say that this is an isolated incident, but Facebook’s quality control is terrible. I look forward to the day when they are no longer associated with this site. Be that as it may, Facebook’s problems are now my problems. So if you are an avid facebooker, hang ten. Hopefully the page will be live soon. … Read entire article »

Week in Zombies: Film, Books, Games … Oh My!
A lot of flesh eating news happened this past week. Movies, books, videogames … nothing was left untouched by our favorite unstoppable horde of brain eaters. Here’s a recap of this past week’s events. * Zombieland Good reviews made this puppy the top grossing movie of the week. I reviewed on Friday, producing a few fireworks in the process. There was some post Zombieland discussion over here. Don’t read if you haven’t seen the movie. * October Giveaway With “The New Zed Order: SURVIVE” being released, Todd Sprague is graciously giving away a free signed copy of his book. You can read about the contest over here, but if you’d rather pick it up yourself, you can get a copy from Amazon over here. * George Romero George Romero has … Read entire article »

Night of the Living Dead
I’m currently in the process of building out a media portion of the site, so I figured I’d start with the beloved classic that really got me into the zombie thing from the start. Oh yeah … Night of the Living Dead. I remember walking into a Blockbuster when I was in high school and I saw it for sale for only five bucks. Mind you, this during a time when new VHS tapes cost video stores around ninety bucks a pop, and used video tapes went somewhere between fifteen and twenty bucks. I didn’t know anything about the movie, I just saw that it had a cool cover and was cheap. I loved every single second of it. The media page is still under development, … Read entire article »

Final Apocalyptic Wallpaper Added
After a long time spent compiling apocalyptic wallpaper from across the web, I have finally, at long last, finished posting the wallpaper to this site. This final batch of wallpaper features more cities in catastrophic disarray with some cities in the process of their death. Feel free to peruse and download the images that you like. Just a note for the uninitiated … these works of art are not mine so if you would like to use them in your own project you will have to get in touch with the artist who created the image. Who are the artists behind this gallery? I have no idea. If you do know, please send me a name so I can get in touch with them. … Read entire article »

Back from Vacation and Rising from the Dead
You just can’t keep a good dead guy down. After a week of floating, boating, and jetsking, I have managed to find myself back at home with my thoughts turned back to the undead. It looks like a lot of zombie news went down from my absence. I have new movie reviews, lots of Left 4 Dead news, and well, a game company asked me to play test one of their upcoming zombie games for the Wii. Lots of zombie stories as the week continues. Keep your shotgun loaded and at your side. It’s going to get interesting. … Read entire article »

Dead Consoles
Well … we’ve seen plenty of games about the undead … what about game consoles themselves? That’s right, some industrious hacker – modder – all around reanimator took it upon himself to raise his old 16bit Super Nintendo from the dead. As you can see by the accompanying photo, he really gave it the walking dead look and feel. The cool thing about this mod is that the console actually glows plutonium green when the lights are out. Very creepy. Very cool. Game Over Project (new window) … Read entire article »

Internet Problems
Things are not going as smoothly as I would like them to go. Tuesday evening, I arrived home to find half of the lights off in the house as well as our phones and internet down. Three days later, we’re still trying to solve the problem. Hopefully regular posts will commence this weekend, but don’t be surprised if the site hasn’t been updated. We’re still working through the problem. If any one has a spare internet connection, feel free to mail it to me in exchange for a delightful thankful :) The good news in all of this is that I have managed to get a lot of reading and writing under the belt :) … Read entire article »

Wallpaper Updated
That’s right … the apocalypse only manages to expand on this site. Whereas the last update was all about the decay of rather famous bridges, this update of wallpaper depicts various states of empty cities. A few of the images include a lone person in the frame which only increases the sense of desolation to be found in a world of empty asphalt. I have two more pages of wallpaper to post before I get to posting pictures of the good stuff. … Read entire article »

More Wallpaper Added
I’m slowly making progress updating the apocalyptic wallpaper on this site. There’s a lot of images so its taking a little bit of time. This weeks update is really “bridged” theme. There are lots of famous bridges depicted in a imaginary state of decay. My favorite in this collection is an image of the Golden Gate Bridge covered in trees and vegetation. Sections of the bridge have collapsed. The broken edges of the bridge hang over a steel grey bay. A derilict tanker is washed ashore on the far side of the bay. It is also overgrown. Houses dot the landscape but there can be no doubt that the residents are long gone. Welcome to the world of a San … Read entire article »
