Movie Review: Tokyo Gore Police

The time is sometime in the nebulous future. The place is Tokyo. In this world, you won’t find zombies, but you will find engineers. These are genetically modified humans that often times exhibit moments of uninhibited insanity. Killing an engineer is not an easy prospect. One must destroy the tumor in the engineer’s brain. But it’s not an easy as it sounds. Each time an engineer is wounded that wound morphs into a deadly weapon. For example, the movie opens with a chainsaw wielding maniac. The newly privatized police officer chops off his arm only to have his arm grow back with another chainsaw embedded into it. And my oh my does the gore start to rain. In … Read entire article »

In the center of Tokyo, a great landfill has arisen. It is a culmination of unwanted things from broken appliances to overbearing mother in laws. It is a toxic place and in time, all of the buried bodies rise as zombies. This is the premise of this bizarre Japanese movie. The story focuses on two workers at fire extinguisher factory. One of the actors wears a fake bald cap. The other wears a fake afro. Movie Review: Dead Meat

After a young woman’s husband is transformed into a zombie, he pins her to the wall and starts to choke her. She frees herself by driving a nail into his eye, whereby he throws into the next room. She falls on a table which crumbles beneath her, sending her to the floor. The husband lurches into the room, picks up a pick axe, and raises it high over his head. The woman backs into the corner of the room and asks in a shock imbued tone, “what are you doing?” I laughed not meaning to. Stabbing your enraged husband in the eye is perfectly normal, of course, but when he grabs the pick-axe, things have truly gone awry. Thankfully, the woman kills her undead husband … Read entire article »

Movie Review: Day of the Dead

The movie opens in a run down shack. A couple of teenagers are in the process of doing all the things that teenagers do in run down shacks. One couple lay on a couch while another slow dances. Once the dancing couple starts to kiss, the boy gets a little ahead of himself by grabbing his girlfriend’s posterior to which she says, “don’t … I want this to be special”. Water shot out of my nose. Special? In a run down shack in the middle of nowhere that probably reeks of mold and funk?  Instead, she propose an alternative.  She proposes that the two go to the teenage boy’s house and make it on the living room couch where only a twenty feet … Read entire article »

Movie Review: Zombie Wars

Lets make no bones about it … Zombie Wars is a bad movie. You only need to watch a few minutes into the movie to get a sense of the cheese that lurks beneath the surface of this epic. Macho tough guys pose while shooting all the undead critters. Each pose is usually followed by a quip or a wink. The dialog is canned and forced, falling dead out of the actor’s mouths instead of resonating something with meaning. The camera work goes all cheese such as one shot framing an actor through the hole in a zombie’s head. Yet … it ain’t all bad. I don’t quite understand it. I watched it to the end and when my wife interrupted the final confrontational … Read entire article »
