Harrodsburg Zombie Walk
I tell ya – no matter how crappy the day – just seeing some pics from a local zombie walk will always produce a smile from me. In fact, just the other day, I was trolling the web for some interesting zombie tidbits when I encountered this post over at Living Dead Media about a zombie walk in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. By Seattle standards, this is a small zombie gathering looking only to have only twenty people or so. But while it lacks in numbers, it makes up in style. Just looking at the pictures, you can see some pretty cool looking dead people with one person obviously being a big fan of Day of the Dead. … Read entire article »

Coming This October … ZomBCon 2010
Zombie Queen Kimberly just wrote to me via the website, letting loose the word that Seattle is once again up to its old zombie shenanigans. I gotta give Kimberly a thumbs up (*whimper*Pittsburgh should be the official world zombie capital*whimper*) because her event is awesome. Aptly titled ZomBCon … this is a zombie’s lover convention featuring guests such as Romero, Max Brooks, and a whole bunch of zombie loving content producers. Even the esteemed Zombie Research Society will be making an appearance to discuss the realities of zombies. … Read entire article »

Zombies Take Manhattan
It looks like this month is going to have a whole bunch of Romero news. For awhile, I didn’t hear anything about the happenings of good old George, but these days, it seems like if I don’t hear something about him, then something must be wrong. I just logged onto Twitter and saw this article posted from his Twitter account. Evidently, in order to promote Survival of the Dead, Romero and friends rounded up four hundred corpses to storm downtown New York. Honestly, this sounds like an awesome zombie walk. Probably the best one ever. From the article: … Read entire article »

ZomBCon and Other Dead Happenings in Seattle
Ryan over at ZomBCon wanted me to get out the word that this Halloween, there’s going to be a rather large zombie convention where you can find plenty of brains ripe for eating. These are the folks who organized the world’s largest zombie walk, thereby taking the crown from Pittsburgh. Grrr. Still, it sounds like a great time for the whole flesh eating family. There’s actually a whole ton of other stuff, so I pasted his press release verbatim. Here is what Ryan has to say: My name is Ryan Reiter, Creative Producer for the Fremont Outdoor Movies in Seattle. We created the cult hit Zombie Movie event last summer called Red, White and Dead last July 3rd and brought a Guinness World Record and … Read entire article »

Bumming Around Pittsburgh with Some Zombies
Here’s an article article from the science-fiction website io9 which displays a wealth of pictures of ZombieFest 2008 that was held at none other than … drum roll please … the Monroeville Mall. Sure, the news might be old, but the images themselves are great such as the giant brain held aloft on fold out chairs. One has to wonder the size of the head from which it was excavated. On a side note, Halloween might appear to be a distant spec on the horizon, but it is coming fast indeed. This year, we must do our best to have Pittsburgh reclaim the zombie capital of the world from Seattle. If any one is associated with the annual Halloween zombie walk over at Monroeville, give me a … Read entire article »

Zombies Plan to Protest, Eat Austrailian Game Board
Looks like our friends in the Southern Hemisphere have had enough with their ratings board. For those of you not in the know, Australia has some of the most rigid video game classification rules. Games which wouldn’t raise an eyebrow in other countries tend to get the beatdown by the folks down under. These games won’t get rated and thus, they cannot be sold (according to my understanding of Aussie law). Some developers, like Valve, produce sanitized versions of their games, making a zombie apocalypse feel like a trip to the mall on Black Friday. … Read entire article »

Alhambra Zombie Walk/Art Showing
Some time back, I mentioned an upcoming art exhibit over in Pasadena-land that combined our love of zombies with our love for each other. It was mixed media event that was a celebration of both zombie culture and Valentine’s Day. Saturday marked the start of the exhibit which kicked it off with zombies shambling down the street with the ultimate convergence of the art gallery. The following article shows some pictures of the event. The funniest one on the page shows a bunch of zombies, staring at a zombie painting. There’s nothing quite like seeing zombies appreciate zombie art. … Read entire article »

Zombies in Love — The Art Exhibit
I can’t help but say that there is no better time to be a zombie fan. There is just too many cool things going on right now in the zombie world it’s just hard to wrap my head around it all. We got zombies invading college campuses, zombies invading movie theaters, and even zombies hitting the dance floor — all happening on a daily basis. This news item comes from Pasadena, California. Well, this really comes from Alhambra, but it’s the same ballpark being neighboring cities and all. Coming this Valentine’s Day, the Nucleus Art Gallery is exhibiting mixed art from a ton of artists with the theme of zombies in love. Here’s the actual notice: “ZOMBIES IN LOVE” is an art exhibition/happening that gathers some recognized … Read entire article »

Cinema Wasteland Horror Expo
Thanks again to Jen for this great information. If you live in or near Ohio or find yourself traveling through the area at the start of April, you might want to swing on over to Strongsville on the weekend of April 10th whereby you can attend the Cinema Wasteland horror convention. This years conventions appears to be honoring Fulci’s great zombie film, Zombie (or Zombi or Zombie 2). It looks like a bunch of the main characters are attending as well as an actor who played iconic zombie that is seen on all the Zombie posters. It looks also to host a ton of Romero alumni. Special effects maestro Tom Savani will also be attending along with Night of the Living Dead’s Bill Hinzman (cemetary … Read entire article »

Something Smells Rotten in Seattle
Many thanks to Joshua Michael Menard for giving me the head’s up about this article. It’s about the recent surge in comic books and how Seattle has been making quite a name for itself in popular culture. The zombie comic book trend is quite awesome. In fact, next month, there will be giveaway featuring one famous detective butting heads with the dead. In short, it comes down to the newcomer Seattle flexing its undead muscles as a mecca for the undead. Granted, the coffee drinking metropolis doesn’t have such landmarks as the Monroeville Mall or any settings in Romero’s films, but somehow, the city keep coming out on top. Party at the Monroeville Mall
If you live anywhere near the Pittsburgh area, you should head on over to Monroeville Mall this weekend. As many of you know, the Monroeville Mall is the modern day mecca of zombie films. It is the original setting of George Romero’s most excellent zombie film, Dawn of the Dead. The mall is hosting a zombie themed Christmas party this Sunday. Here’s the skinny on the event: … Read entire article »

Lost Zombies
These days, you can’t web surf two pages without getting ensnared by a social network. Granted, they’re a great a way to get in touch with a lot of old friends and family members, but there seems to be a social network geared for everything. And yes, I also mean zombies. Introducing Lost Zombies. Looking to have hundreds, if not thousands of members, Lost Zombies is a network with a purpose. It’s trying to create the first user generated documentary about the zombie apocalypse. In short, they are asking for all your raw zombie footage, and for those who do submit content, they will get a nice little sticker. … Read entire article »

Zombies Overrunning Longmont, Colorado
What started as a fun game on college campuses has erupted into a full on zombie apocalypse. If you live in Longmont, Colorado, do not leave your building. The town is overrun with zombies. Well, they don’t eat your brains and point of fact, they aren’t really dead, but if you get tagged by some person wearing an orange bandanna you will be infected. I gotta say, it’s pretty cool to see this game infect people outside of college campuses. It’s probably already happening in some high schools. I’m looking forward to the day when I get my driver’s license only to have the desk clerk draws a nerf gun on me. Good times indeed. Week-long ‘Humans vs. Zombies’ game battles through Longmont (timescall.com … Read entire article »
