“Monsters” Coming on Demand on September 24

MonstersIt’s really hard to describe this movie, and looking at the trailer, I can’t help but say it looks pretty awesome. Looking to combine good old fashioned apocalypse with some zombie horde behavior, Monsters appears to be the type of film that got me into zombies in the first place. Note, you can find the trailer by the following the link below.

So what are the monsters? I’m not quite sure. The trailer does an excellent job at concealing the hungry beasts, and while some of them looks to be of Godzilla proportions, I’m guessing from the giant “INFECTED AREA” signs means that this parasite crosses over to people as well.

Yeah, so what’s it about? Here’s what I managed to dig up:

Six years ago NASA discovered the possibility of alien life within our solar system. A probe was launched to collect samples, but crashed upon re-entry over Central America. Soon after, new life forms began to appear and grow. In an effort to stem the destruction that resulted, half of Mexico was quarantined as an INFECTED ZONE. Today, the American and Mexican military still struggle to contain the massive creatures… Our story begins when a jaded US journalist (McNairy) begrudgingly agrees to find his boss’ daughter, a shaken American tourist (Able) and escort her through the infected zone to the safety of the US border.

Monsters looks to be following Survival of the Dead’s footsteps by first playing on the web before hitting the theaters in October. The movie will be playing on iTunes, XBox Live, Playstation Network, Amazon, and Vudu so if you have an internet connection not powered by a hamster, you should be able to catch this.

Cool stuff. I’m hoping the movie will live up to the trailer. Finger’s crossed.

Saw this at Fantasy Filmfest yesterday. Really an awesome movie, more quiet and subtle than you’d probably expect though.. largely focused on the protagonists and their relationship. Certainly no actionfest (and no Zombies in it, just those huuuge alien monsters).. if you can go see it somewhere I can highly recommended!

    1. Hi Wheeler … that’s great to know although I’m little disappointed that we won’t be seeing zombies. Do you think this is worth “renting” on XBox, or should I just grab it from Netflix when it comes out on DVD?

US and UK theatrical releases seem to have been confirmed so if you’re lucky you might even be able to see it on the big screen in October or so. Considering its budget (only $250k) the movie is really amazing visually and has multiple angles to interpret. By the way, two new zombie movies I saw at the Filmfest were The Pack (La Meute) and Devil’s Playground, .. but both were really horrible : )
