How to Survive of an Apocalypse
I’m sure a lot of you out there have thought at length on how to survive in the inevitable zombie apocalypse (shoutout to Cory), but have you put much thought into surviving a plain old by the numbers apocalypse? Well some writer over at the Huffington Post recently pointed his thoughts in such a direction and he basically concludes you’d need guns, guns, and more guns and maybe a Ghillie suit for kicks.
Let me start by saying that this article is being pure peanut butter and fluff as you tell by the opening of the article:
See, at some point in the future, you will inevitably find yourself in the middle of an electromagnetic pulse attack, or a dirty bomb detonation, or thermonuclear war, or terrorist-delivered smallpox attack. THIS IS JUST LIFE, NO ONE DENIES THIS! What are you going to do, when you and the last vestiges of society have to embark on a hardscrabble struggle to perpetuate the human race. If you’re like me, and you recognize the fact that your Master of Fine Arts degree and your talent for writing dick jokes about politics are superfluous to society’s needs, you will probably just take one for the human race and agree to be culled from the survivors. Hopefully it will be quick and painless, and people will remember your sacrifice fondly!
As much as I’d like to tote my double barrel shotgun along with my M-60, I think I’d leave one of those weapons behind for a water purifier, and just maybe, a can opener. After all, guns are only so useful if you have the bullets to fire. I personally think that the a nice large honkin’ knife would be aces. What would you take with you to the end of the world?

I think that if you want to sweep the streets of zombies arriving, then get a motorcycle and sidecar. You can put most of those items on the bike, but if you had the side car, the person riding ‘shotgun’ can! and I’m telling ya, If you had a potato cannon, a bag of spam or those cheap hams- then launched them into a crowd of zombies- the particular smell of it will cause the zombies to pause to frenzy. So, have your wingman fire the diversionary zombie treats into the crowd. Then the biker can use his handlebar weapons to mow down the zombies, or to pick off the heads of the zombies. Plan B with the potato cannon is to get some freshly warmed Pig Brains you can buy/steal from the defunct grocery store or farm, and fire it into the crowd, they will rip each other apart for eating brinz-pig brainz..lol so , about 3 volleys should again, stop the advancement of the zombies, then allow for the rest of the zombies to feed, and then gunners can do their work.
‘a nice large honkin’ knife’? I would personally recommend a foot and a half long kukri knife myself. Essential weapon and tool.
I just looked up the image … very very cool … I think I just might buy one to mow my lawn ;)
Meh and a half to the article.
I like kukuris too. Probably be the third close weapon I’m considering. Number 1 would be a left handed knife like this bamf: (http://www.jayfisher.com/argiopeebony.html).
Number two would be a nice tomahawk. I’d rate the kukuri as a comfortable third.
No matter what guns will be needed in the early stages they will be invaluable more so than water, shelter or food. Ammo and Guns will be king until there are way more guns than people. As for ammo, I really think everyone underestimates how much ammo is really out there. I know in most cabins in northern ontario (canada) you;ll find a rifle and ammo. I also know that there are warehouses full of ammo all over North America and they will not all be guarded. Realistically it will be just as sought after as water and food. It may even become currency.
food & water. I live in Louisiana and it’s extremely hot & humid here. Weapons would do me no good if I passed out from exhaustion or dehydration. i’m in no rush to go zombie hunting. their population will just continue to increase anyway. i am not trained to shoot guns or wield bladed weapons properly (and realistically, neither are most people) so i would just end up getting myself killed. basic survival – food, water, shelter. if i had to take up a weapon, i’m sure anything that could bludgeon would be effective in a pinch.
