Night Zero – Mixing Live Action with Comic Books
If you are a big fan of comic books and you like stories about zombies, do yourself a favor and forget about The Walking Dead for a minute and swing on over to Night Zero.
This is a really cool project.
In short, this is a comic book produced in still photographs which mimic the dramatic angles of our favorite paneled past time (huzzah!). Dialog is written in comic bubbles over characters head making this look and feel like the real deal.
While this in itself might produce a protracted yawn from some people, the quality of the books are professional to the max. From the actors to the wardrobe to even the props they hold give the book a half-real/half imaginary quality that have you stare at the page long after you finished reading it.
This is not a side project for some photography students. This is a very professional product that oozes quality from each vantage point. How do they do this? From their about page:
IGHT ZERO is produced like a feature film, shot on-location with a full cast and crew, complete with sets, props, and costumes. Using the emerging technology of High Dynamic Range photography (HDR) and a process called tonemapping, our digital artists are able to transform the images into a unique visual style somewhere between photography and illustration. There is no tracing or hand drawing superimposed on the photographs– the “illustrated” style is purely the result of the HDR photography method.
Just recently, the crew has released the secound volume of the work which can be found in most comic book stores. Or, for the patient minded, you can follow the updates on their site. Awesome stuff. Check it out.

I really liked this series at first but after awhile it was getting a little boring. Like you said the production quality is top notch. Its probably on of the best live action comic books around…

A great series that I follow too. Zman’s right, some of the earlier stuff moved a bit slow for being a webcomic, but I just got the second book (at Emerald City Comicon) and it’s a lot better being able to read the comics all the way through on paper. The photography is gorgeous, and the zombies/infected/whatever are nice and gory.
