Mail Order Zombie 111 – Zombie 3, The Crazies, and Tony Faville
Another great podcast from BrotherD and Miss Bren with a lot of zombie news, plenty of good reviews, and a ton of information about Russian-Alaskan relations (funny stuff). This week MOZ dives deep into the Zombie 3 which like all other movies starting with the name “Zombie”, it has a gazillion other associated names. There is also a guest reviewer who takes a look at the Crazies. The podcast concludes with Tony Faville providing a reading from his newly released book, Kings of the Dead.
Here’s the thing about Tony … from hearing his comments about zombies throughout the show, it is pretty clear that he thinks about the undead a lot. The interesting thing about his examinations is that he appears to look at zombies from a realistic perspective. He writes to BrotherD noting that most people would puke all over themselves at the approach of the zombie horde – not just from fear, but from the stench of the mob. It was pretty insightful comment that made me stop what I was doing to process it. That said, he reads the opening of his book which sounds great, hooking me into it (no small feat). Maybe one day we’ll get a podcast version.
The show also has a great bit where BrotherD and Miss Bren discuss the whole idea of giving movies a number. It was a very interesting and real discussion because there is such a gray area when talking art. I try to avoid the entire situation by going the “see it/skip it” route, but even that approach isn’t so hot when a movie walks the border.
Still, It was a great discussion because they work so well off each other, both giving and taking, challenging but not biting. At one point, Miss Bren comments that they are doing marriage counseling on the air. Conversation, like art, can unnerve us when it comes from the heart, and that my friends, is a good thing.
In any case, it’s a great listen. Check it out.

Shame on me for not having noticed this post until now. Yeah, I tend to look at things a little differently than many people do. Glad you enjoyed my comments about our friends, the zombies.
Ciao!
