Zombies Granted Free Speech Rights
I seem to start a lot of posts with the following scenario, but imagine if you will that the world is in flames and the dead walk the earth. Now imagine, if you pulled a gun on one of the zombies only to find yourself arrested, and thrown into a post apocalyptic jail because you threatened a zombie’s free speech rights. No — this isn’t just some random story, but the law in action.
hey’re said to utter little more than an occasional groan, but zombies — the blood-drenched monsters of Hollywood “B” movies — still have a right to free speech, a US court ruled this week.
An appeals court in the northern US city of Minneapolis, Minnesota on Wednesday allowed a group of zombies — or rather, several protesters costumed as such — to press ahead with their lawsuit against police who arrested them for disorderly conduct.
The appeals court overturned a lower court in finding that the group of seven “zombies” had been wrongfully detained during a 2006 shopping mall protest against consumerism.
Lawmakers have evidently ignored the apocalyptic potential from this ruling. Here’s my logic. Zombies can’t speak, thus their actions can be construed as actual speech in lieu of spoken words … I think you can see where I am going with this … legal zombie apocalypses :) God, I should be a news pundit ;)
‘Zombies’ have free speech rights too, US court rules (news.yahoo.com <- new window)

I…don’t think…that’s QUITE…the spirit of the ruling…
That’s just a simple ruling over the legality of a protest.
