3D Movies Hurt Your Brain
I just bumped into this rather interesting article on io9, making me revel in my luddite ways. Scientists have been doing studies on 3D films and have proven that 3D movies can cause eye weariness and headaches.
Really … they didn’t need to spend all that money. All they had to do was pay for my Avatar ticket and sit next to me.
What’s actually scary about this article has nothing to do with the findings, but rather, it lists a whole boatload of movies being released in 3D over the next few years. There are a ton of them which appears mostly comprised of sequels, remakes, and reboots. The scariest item on the list happens to be “The Smurfs 3D”, proving without a doubt that Hollywood is a cultural dumpster diver.
Honestly, I don’t care if every movie is made in 3D. All I ask is that there be a 2D option so I don’t leave the theater holding my head in my hands. How does everyone else feel? Am I the only who feels like they are receiving a cinematic lobotomy during each 3D session? And really … does 3D add anything to the picture as whole?

My wife won’t watch them at all, she gets migraines from 3D. And no, in over 40-50 years of evolving the technology, I still don’t think Hollywood has found a way to enhance actual storytelling with 3D, it’s just an “ooh ahh” factor.
As I said last time you posted about 3D movies…I will not see them. They give me migraines and make my eyes water. :p
Man, The Gate? In 3D? Come ON!
I don’t find the whole 3D thing to be that exciting. For one, it’s been around forever, and they’re just now starting to use it? Also, I don’t want to have to wear special glasses every time I want to watch a movie. It doesn’t make the movie that much better anyway.
I am totally with you… 3D movies really make my brain hurt. also with you on 6the fact that I don’t care if they make every movie in 3D as long as they have a 2D option as well.
Nightmare before christmas and alice in wonderland, especially alice, made my head hurt SO bad it felt like it was splitting. I have heard it can actually tweek your brain in some way and that wouldn’t surprise me with all the weird and creepy things they come up with now. Lazers that blind people or boil the water in their skin. Yuck. I don’t trust new 3D at all!
