The Zombie Combat Manual

The Zombie Combat ManualAs we know, the walking dead can pose quite a problem to the walking digestible so it’s good to know how to defend yourself. Some might argue that it would be smart to learn to defend yourself regardless of the dead or not and some might even further argue, that one should never leave the house without a good old fashioned twelve gauge, but I’ll defer argument on that one for now.

The Zombie Combat Manual aims to fill in the empty spaces from Max Brooks, giving praticial instructions on how maim and kill your undead neighbors. The key point is that this is a hand to hand manual. From the description:

During a zombie outbreak, 98% of individuals will have to destroy their undead opponent without the aid of a firearm. Will you be ready?

The Zombie Combat Manual is a comprehensive guide that demonstrates how anyone, from seasoned fighter to average citizen, can become an effective warrior in the inevitable battle against the undead.

With detailed illustrations and firsthand accounts from zombie combat veterans, this manual provides readers with the information they need to emerge victoriously from a close combat encounter with a walking corpse. Now is the time to learn how to survive a hand-to-hand battle against the advancing army of the undead-before humans fall prey to their growing ranks.

Getting close to zombie wouldn’t be my cup of tea, and unless I spent my days and nights practicing these routines with another person, I can’t imagine they would be very useful unless you were to stuff the book in a zombie’s gaping mouth.

That said, zombies aside and all, this could be an interesting read for the zombie lover and occasional martial arts enthusiast. And who knows, you might just learn something. In any case, it should be in your local bookstore.

I hate to be the wet blanket here but that figure of 98% is utter nonsense. According to the Small Arms Survey 2007:
    • Civilians own about 650 million firearms worldwide, roughly 75 per cent of the known total. US citizens alone own some 270 million of these.
    • There are at least 875 million combined civilian, law enforcement, and military firearms in the world today.
    • There is roughly one firearm for every seven people worldwide. Without the United States, though, this drops to about one firearm per ten people.

Assuming there will be more zombies than people, there will be plenty of guns to be had.
But hey, it might be a fun read anyway. Don’t let me spoil it for you.

I don’t think that zombies are going to wait around while you go home and get their guns…a lot of people who OWN guns don’t CARRY them. Having said that, yeah, 98% is a figure they pulled out of nowhere to be dramatic. :p
