Weapon Madness – Round One – Melee Weapon Contest: Flaming Torch vs Baseball Bat

Weapon Madness - Round One - Melee Weapon Contest: Flaming Torch vs Baseball Bat The last matchup wasn’t so much a matchup, but a list of reasons on why not to use a beanbag gun. The simple answer was that it lacked any killing potential. I think the only real use for the gun would be to create diversions. But here’s the thing: zombies aren’t the most intelligent of beings so I don’t think diversions would work well against them. In any case, the auto shotgun won with an easy majority

This next matchup is a flaming torch (as opposed to the British word for flashlight) versus a baseball bat. An easy matchup? You decide.

Torch

Pros: able to burn a lot of zombies, could be used as a distraction, good against other survivors
Cons: could attract attention, flaming zombies, burn yourself

Baseball Bat

Pros: Good skull cracking potential, can push zombies back, easy to handle
Cons: easy to break, handle vibration, would take a lot of effort to kill

Just a reminder about the judging. These are Romero type zombies. They are slow and sluggish. Headshots or decapitations will kill them. Bites will lead to probable infection, then death. You should judge a weapon based on its effectiveness against one zombie to an entire horde. A weapon does not need to be lethal to be effective. If it buys you some time to escape, then it should be looked on with favor.

So which do you think will make for a better zombie killing weapon?

Weapons Bracket“>The pick axe had an overwhelming victory in that last matchup with only myself and Charlene dissenting from the rest of the site. I will say that while the cordless drill would make a pretty terrible weapon, I’ve worked with enough pick axes in the past to avoid them at all costs. I can’t tell you how many heads I’ve managed to snap off the handle, or my personal exhaustion after a long session. I also like the drill for getting in and out of places while using it to help build a barricade for any buildings.

This next matchup puts an auto shotgun versus a beanbag gun. Honestly, I’ve never used a beanbag gun nor have I thought about it, so I’m going to defer adding positives and negatives for it, and instead leave to the weapon experts on the site.

Semi Auto Shotgun

Pros: great kill potential, take off a head with a single blast, rapid fire
Cons: loud, could burn through ammo, kick back could be painful

Beanbag Gun

Pros: ???
Cons: ???

Baseballbat, no doubt. A torch would only set the zombie on fire, seems kinda useless to me really.
