Weapon Madness – Round One – Potato Gun vs Flare Gun

Weapon Madness - Round One - Potato Gun vs Flare GunWhen push came to shove, nunchucks just couldn’t hold up against a hatchet. People were really turned off by the self damaging potential, but it was also the dual use abilities of the hatchet that made it an attractive choice. Believe it or not, I use a hatchet almost every night and if the zombies were to come knocking on my door, I’d probably use anything else (except nunchucks). Sure, the hatchet has a fine blade, but you only have one swing against a zombie and the old rotter isn’t going to wait for you to pry hatchet out of its skull before it attacks again.

This next matchup is a fun one. A potato gun versus a flare gun.

Potato Gun

Pros: any ammo will do, easily created, silent
Cons: air compressor could be difficult to find, slow reloading, could be unwieldy

Flare Gun

Pros: could burn the zombie’s eyes out, can create distraction, silent but deadly
Cons: one shot wonder, specialized ammo, could create an angry flaming zombie

Just a reminder about the judging. These are Romero type zombies. They are slow and sluggish. Headshots or decapitations will kill them. Bites will lead to probable infection, then death. You should judge a weapon based on its effectiveness against one zombie to an entire horde. A weapon does not need to be lethal to be effective. If it buys you some time to escape, then it should be looked on with favor.

So which do you think will make for a better zombie killing weapon?

Don’t get me wrong I’d never use either but I’d take the flare gun, I can signal for help. the potato gun is cool and all but really wouldn’t be enough to kill a zombie. If you used the flare gun wisely (dousing the zombies in gasoline before firing it into a horde.) the flare gun has no real uses other than that in a zombie attack so I’d pack a real weapon on the side.
