Daybreakers Set for Release and Looking Good
Back in 2003, a little known zombie film was released titled Undead. I remember popping it into the DVD player, not expecting much and actually getting less. It had some cool moments and the production itself was pretty slick, but on the whole I didn’t like the mixing of aliens and zombies, not mention a backwoods farmer who could give Bruce Lee a beatdown. It wasn’t bad like The Stink of Flesh bad and the movie certainly had its moments. The movie just didn’t work for me.
Five years later, we have a new film by the same people and it looks great. There’s no zombies to be found in it, but instead, we have a world of vampires who are struggling to maintain a food supply. By all accounts, the vampire society is the same as human society. They use cell phones. They go to work. Hell, they wear suits instead of frilly satin Gothic robes (thank god!). A small band of rebels (sound familiar) led by Willem Defoe attempts to liberate the world. In short, we have politics, intrigue, betrayal, and explosions. Oh, and vampires. A whole boatload of them.
