Weapon Madness – Round One – Lead Pipe vs 2×4
Another day. Another shut out. As much as people admired the grenade, people saw it more as a liability than an advantage. The shotgun won this match hands down and as Gonzo said on the facebook page, “how can you argue against a shotgun during a zombie apocalypse.” Shotguns are the peanut butter that goes on the zombie chocolate. I digress.
For the next matchup we have the lead pipe versus the 2×4. Here is the quick breakdown:
Lead Pipe
Pros: good crushing potential, can’t break, can be used as a makeshift crowbar
Cons: vibrations, could exhaust the arm, need to be somewhat close
2×4
Pros: long distance swipe, can be used for barricade potential, can push zombies at a distance
Cons: not much crushing power, splinters, could break
Just a reminder about the judging. These are Romero type zombies. They are slow and sluggish. Headshots or decapitations will kill them. Bites will lead to probable infection, then death. You should judge a weapon based on its effectiveness against one zombie to an entire horde. A weapon does not need to be lethal to be effective. If it buys you some time to escape, then it should be looked on with favor.
So which do you think will make for a better zombie killing weapon?

OK now here is the thing both weapons are pretty much everywhere and neither need to be reloaded or sharpened. So based on the fact that the 2×4 can break I’m gonna take the lead pipe, its weight is ideal for smashing a skull with only one blow and odds are you won’t get a second try at it. If you fashion a handle for a lead pipe the vibrations should be a non-issue, the prying factor is not a selling point as the 2×4 can be used as a lever in many applications it would be more useful, the only thing is that the 2×4 as a weapon is not a good one. If I’m boarding up my house for defence then a 2×4 is great, but if I’m fighting for my life I’m gonna take something a little more lethal and compact so I’m taking the lead pipe.
