Vampires and Werewolves Fighting Zombies?
Geek Tyrant has a little bit of news from our friends in Hollywood. Afraid to capitalize on the wrong genre, Dreamworks has decided to cover the bases in its next animation feature. The studio is adapting the book, “Gil’s All Fright Diner” about a vampire and werewolf teaming up with each other to fight back a wave of zombies. Granted, this sounds pure tongue and cheek, but one wonders why the vampire doesn’t team up with the zombies since technically the vampire is equally as dead. Probably to stave off competition. Who knows. The blog entry includes a little synopsis of the upcoming film:
Bloodier than Fried Green Tomatoes! Funnier than The Texas Chainsaw Massacre! Welcome to Gil’s All Night Diner, where zombie attacks area regular occurrence and you never know what might be lurking in the freezer . . . . Duke and Earl are just passing through Rockwood County in their pickup truck when they stop at the Diner for a quick bite to eat. They aren’t planning to stick around-until Loretta, the eatery’s owner, offers them $100 to take care of her zombie problem. Given that Duke is a werewolf and Earl’s a vampire, this looks to be right up their alley.
The other news attached to this article is that Men in Black’s Barry Sonnenfeld is slated to direct. I don’t know much about animation, but I do know that the directing role is substantially different from a live action role. He’ll probably lay out the shots on storyboards, then work with the actors but Sonnenfield’s quirky style probably won’t be translated as well as a live action film.
This sounds like it could be a good time, but the two things that could derail this picture is the humor and the writing. As always, I’ll keep my eye on it.
