Zombie Christmas Review – Zombies and Christmas Go Together Like Rum and Eggnog
A couple of years ago, I remember trying to produce a mix tape that featured apocalyptic end of the world songs, but told in a happy upbeat fashion. I managed to compile about five songs before I threw my hands up in the air and barfed all over myself. People just aren’t happy to welcome the apocalypse. It’s all ballads and teary death. Cry. Cry. Kiss. Kiss. We all fall down.
Is there anyone else besides me who want to die in their dancing boots?
Little did I know that there was an album made just for me. This album made me laugh which is a big thing as I’ve been doing too much in too little time with Christmas right around the bend. Yet, I could listen about zombies eating girlfriends, then eat the cast of Cheers, and then eat more girlfriends. This is some funny stuff. The best part about this album is that you already know the jingles. It’s all about the lyrics, and the lyrics are great.
Made by singer/songwriter Mike “Pooch” Puccio (a contributor to the Howard Stern Show), a Zombie Christmas is a tribute to all things zombie. It’s a blend of rock and holiday cheer with the funniest lyrics about being eaten by zombies, commanding zombies to eat, and watching other people be eaten by them.
The first thing you’ll notice when you open the album is that this isn’t your ordinary CD. The front of the disc is black and grooved bringing to mind vinyl records. There’s even the trademark record static in certain sections of the songs.
I simply adore We Three Zombies. Check out these lyrics:
Born again after being lain
Cold and stinky will bring your pain
Run for cover
There’s no shelter
Stuffing our face with your brains.
Roofs of Malls is also a classic sung to the tune of Deck the Halls. This song is pretty funny with all the zombies singing the chorus. Well, singing is a bad word for it. They all grunt together in unison while the singer sings about protecting a mall which of course, doesn’t really turn out well.
In short, this is a really fun album that’s definitely worth the pickup. I honestly didn’t know what to expect and I found myself laughing out loud at some of the most bizarre lyrics. There are some real head scratchers, but what makes them so fun is that they are sung in earnest. You can tell Mike Puccio had a great time putting this together. His giddiness really shines through each song especially when he pleads to a zombie to eat his girlfriend because she won’t have anal sex with him.
The good news is that the CD is going for eight bucks right now or you can download it direct for five bucks which is an absolute steal. My only wish is that they made these songs for Rock Band. Seriously … these songs make for the perfect party game. In any case, if you have a holiday party coming around the bend, bring this CD with you. You’ll bring down the house.
Verdict: Buy it
