Interview with We’re Alive Creators Kc Wayland and Shane Stalk – Part Two

We're AliveWe’re Alive is the best zombie audio production out there today. Conceived and produced by two friends with a passion for film and zombies, We’re Alive is a stunning achievement of a production that juggles a score of characters in a world gone to hell. Listening to this show is bittersweet. One moment, I’m captivated by the many characters and the web of relationships. The next moment, the show ends and I have to wait for the next episode.

Series creators KC Wayland and Shane Stalk took time out of their schedule to answer some questions that I sent to them about the series.

What are some of the difficulties in creating a production with so many characters and arcs to follow?
We have a giant storyboard of every character and plot; getting each one their required airtime is tricky.

How did you find your actors?
We hold casting sessions. However, a few actors and day characters are ones that we have worked with in the past.

Was there any training involved for this “new time radio”?
We didn’t have training, but there is a growing process.

Is there a lot preparation in putting everything together?
YES, We spend weeks planning out scripts, scheduling recording sessions, and editing episodes.

How do you handle conflicting schedules or actors who can no longer perform?
We try our best to work with the actors’ schedules to record all together, There have been a few instances when we had to record a single performance on a separate day and edit them in later.
