Weapons Madness – Round One – 9mm. Pistol vs Nail Gun
The katana and butcher’s knife went to work on each other, but alas, the butcher’s knife just didn’t have the reach to take down the katana. In the end, it got sliced in half.
Point of fact, my wife has actually trained with real katanas. She observed that the weapons were so sharp that even the act of withdrawing the weapon or putting it back required a certain method being the katana could slice through the sheath with ease.
Matchup number two. A 9mm. pistol versus a nail gun. I’ve never fired a 9mm pistol or nail gun so feel free to fill in the gaps for me. I’m just winging these pros and cons.
9mm. Pistol
Pros: Can kill from a distance, somewhat rapid fire, quick reload
Cons: Not much stopping power, makes noise, ammo might be hard to find in a post-apocalyptic setting
Nail Gun:
Pros: Rapid fire, able to pierce the skull with ease, ammo should be easy to find
Cons: Need to be close, need compressor or fuel cells for sustained use, can be heavy in one hand
Just a reminder about the judging. These are Romero type zombies. They are slow and sluggish. Headshots or decapitations will kill them. Bites will lead to probable infection, then death. You should judge a weapon based on its effectiveness against one zombie to an entire horde. A weapon does not need to be lethal to be effective. If it buys you some time to escape, then it should be looked on with favor.
So which do you think will make for a better zombie killing weapon?

the 9mm is easily the better chiose as long as you have the ammo. A nailgun (which i have used) is considerably more heavy and requires more maitenince to keep in good working order. A 9mm (which I have also used) can easily be repaired with replacment parts from another gun wtih no special tools required, It is great for defence not only against the walking dead but other survivors who are interested in taking your supplies. Handguns were made to be light weight, compact and so easy to use a child can use it. In a situation where I’m potential food for anything I’d take a firearm over a gas powered weapon any day of the week.
Well put, Dan
I hate reading about mythical magical katanas that are so sharp they slice open the space-time continuum just by moving. Even chemically sharpened live steel blades don’t slice through scabbards, the whole hoodoo about the way they sheath and unsheath is probably some lame metaphysical koan that is based more on groupie worshipping an elder and ‘the right way’ more than practical application.
A ‘real katana’ falls into the category of mythical weapons, or “My cousins uncles aunties flat mate knew a guy who…” :P
Btw, I vote for the 9 mil. A lot of law enforcement firearms are still 9 para, law enforcement personnel are a walking cache in any appocalyptic scenario! ;)
lol …. well, in my wife’s experience, the katana sheath was made of Manta Ray skin, but she noted that sheaths can be made of cloth or leather thus repairing the time space continuum.
