Left 4 Dead 2: Getting the “Wing and a Prayer” Achievement
Today my friends and I managed to unlock the “Wing and a Prayer” achievement. This achievement requires you to defend a downed airplane without taking a single hit. When I first read about this, I immediately wrote it off as undoable. The last game had a similar achievement which turned out to be an exercise in frustration. As it turns out, this achievement isn’t nearly as hard as the other. In fact, with a good couple of gunners, you should be able to do it with ease. At least, in theory.
I’ve linked to Achievement Hunter’s way of unlocking it, but it requires you to play with bots and also hide in an aisle of seats like a little wuss. My method is all about guns blazing, baby.
The first thing to do is make sure everyone has pipe bombs and assault rifles. Also, a good melee weapon is great for close encounters. Once you arrive at the airplane, have your team form a line by the emergency dor. Open the door and toss your first pipe bomb. Cut a hard right and follow the length of the fuselage until you reach the tail. At this point, toss another pipe bomb. Climb on top of the plane and walk the length of it until you are directly overhead of the escape hatch. Have one player stand guard near the cockpit of the plane. There is a fallen tree which infected like to use as a ladder. It just matter of gunning them down. You should be able to gun down the rest of the infected with ease, as well as spot those irritating special infected a long way off. Since it takes the infected some time to climb up the plane, you should be able to spot them a long way off.
The key point about this achievement … if any of your friends are hurt and you haven’t been touched, you will still get the achievement. We thought it was the entire team. Coach (controlled by a bot) took his time, and once pounced, we thought it was over We were all shocked when we got the achievement not realizing it was per individual. Well, not all of us. My brother in law was quiet during our celebrations. He did manage to jockeyed at some point.
In any case, good luck with it. If you have a better strategy, let me know.

Very helpful. I thought it was a team Acievement too. I’ll be going for it soon…
I think the gnome Achievement is amazing thats a team based one. No sane man could get that with 3 AI team mates protecting him.
I got guardin gnome with a split-screen partner and 2 bots
I did haha well I’m a girl so I’m not a sane man haha
twilighttay217 check it I got it
haha if i add you will you help me get it?
it’s really not that hard at all, just frustrating.
win the gnome in the second chapter this took me a bit then just carry him to the end melee everything the bots pretty much take care of it careful of tanks they’ll knock the gnome and one time i couldn’t find it again and just stow the gnome somewhere easy to fight in the finale then grab and go to the helicopter.
My friends and I had a hell of time getting this. Running over the rollercoaster was white knuckled terror and the finale on the fourth map was insanity (where the zombies flood through the gates). I gotta say, it was a clever improvement to the game.
your a dumb ass, the achievment hunter’s way is the best way to get it, it doesnt take as much work to get it,jack ass
i did it there way and got it my first try
Actually, there’s even an easier way to get it than the achievement hunters, but at the end of the end, I like method best because I’m out there fighting the horde while you’re hiding behind an airplane seat. One makes you a better player. The other makes you an achievement whore.
