Chemical 12D
I’ve been hearing a lot of this short in the past few weeks. The grand consensus is that it quite literally blows the socks off the audience after each screening, making a giant pile of laundry. Just looking at the trailer tells you that it isn’t amateur night. It’s professional lit and shot on 35mm film on a freakin’ digital camera (amazing!), yet I’m being told over and over that this is a student production.
From the linked blog:
Crisply shot by Eldridge’s producer David Wagenaar, the seven-minute short has the look and feel of a studio production. Centering on a single incident involving a lone scientist experimenting on a cure for the undead plague, it makes its point quickly, powerfully and deftly.
Just checking out the trailer and you’ll want to see the rest of this. So far, I can’t find the rest of the film online, but when I do, I’ll drop the word.
UPDATE: Check out Dave Wagenaar’s (Chemical 12D’s director of photography) comment below … they shot this on digital instead of 35mm. Incredible. I’ve worked on professional shoots and none of them were as slick as this.

Hey there,
Mac and I really appreciate the review! I just thought I’d make one correction, which is that we shot the film on an HVX 200 with a letus adapter (in order to have a more shallow depth of field). In the case you want to correct that since we didn’t in fact shoot on film. Thanks again!

Wow, Dave … all I got to say is wow. The image quality is fantastic, and this coming from a former camera assistant ;) If you guys ever put this online, please let me know. Keep up the amazing work. You have quite a career in front of you.
Thanks Brian. That means a lot to us as we are launching our careers. I hope the word keeps spreading.
